The Aqaba Aquarium and Science Hub will span 21,000 square meters within the historic port district of Aqaba, now redeveloped as Marsa Zayed. As a cornerstone of the city’s broader master plan, the project is central to transforming Aqaba into a premier global destination. Its design, engineering, and specialist works commenced after a competitive tender process completed in January 2023.

Situated on the Gulf of Aqaba and adjacent to the Aqaba Marine Reserve, a National Marine Protected Area established in June 2020 under the direction of King Abdullah II, the project benefits from proximity to one of the world’s most vibrant and resilient coral reef systems. These reefs, renowned for their biodiversity, provide both inspiration and scientific relevance to the development.

The 15,000-square-meter Public Aquarium is conceived as more than a visitor attraction. Integrating contemporary architecture with cutting-edge technology, it features immersive tools such as virtual reality systems that allow exploration of the Gulf’s coral ecosystems in detail, without the ethical concerns of traditional aquariums. With a strong emphasis on conservation and education, the aquarium is designed to engage casual visitors, students, and marine scientists alike.

Complementing this is the 7,500-square-meter Science Hub, inspired by leading European science parks. It will provide flexible spaces for research, innovation, and education, including modular laboratories, product testing facilities, and classrooms. Together, the Aquarium and Science Hub aim to position Aqaba as a leader in marine science, environmental stewardship, and sustainable tourism.
